Artist's Statement

I spent the past sixteen years shooting television shows in L.A.  I have gone to the dentist with Anna Nicole Smith, took Hugh Hefner's Jack Daniels from his bedroom and got drunk, made out with Cybill Shepherd, talked golf with Bruce Jenner and watched Beverly Hills plastic surgeons gut women like a deer and then put them back together more beautiful than ever.  It was fun, and as much success as I had achieved, I felt like I basically spent sixteen years shooting a dog turd covered with glitter.  L.A. was good to me and I have no complaints, though a change was due and new challenges were needed.

So why am I presenting these drive-in photos to you?  Why not?  I take photographs of things that catch my eye.  I used to work at a drive-in.  Is that why I took these pictures?  I also used to work at a grocery store, but you don’t see any pictures of Jewel or Aldi hanging here.  Maybe I’m subconsciously capturing an image of an American past time that is fading away, documenting something that today’s children may never know.  Now, that would be deep.

What really matters is… do you like what you see?  How does it make you feel?  And did you bring your checkbook?
