Extending the Digital Darkroom

Because the class is limited to 10 students, the $400 fee is due in advance by May 28, 2012. Check or cash only, NO refunds.

Students who have successfully completed Photo III and/or the Show Class are often faced with some questions about specialized techniques for addressing some very specific photographic post processing challenges.

"Is there a method for getting more depth-of-field for the subject I'm attempting to capture?" "I'm in a challenging exposure situation where I know that I will not be able to capture the tonal range that my eye can see – is there something I else that I can do?" "I'm not satisfied with the black & white images I'm getting using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom – what options exist using Adobe Photoshop?" "I would really like to capture more detail in a specific subject that I'm working with – how hard is it to shoot multiple images in a mosaic fashion and merge them into a single composite image?"

If you've reached a point where any of the above questions (or more) you find yourself asking as you review your latest photographic project then Photo IV class is for you.  The traditional darkroom was a place that photographic masters such as Ansel Adams spent much time honing their craft. This was not to replace what he accomplished with the camera, but more important it was how he ensured that he was able to publish the best representation of what he captured on paper. The same holds true today. There are a range of tools, techniques, and approaches used by photographers to achieve that "best print".

Photo IV is designed to build on the knowledge and experience you have obtained thus far (from completion of Photo III and/or the Show Class) by providing more tools and capabilities that can be employed in your digital photography. Some of this will involve how you capture a photograph, and some will involve what you do next. The class will introduce various tools that students will then try themselves using images they have captured.  This is a seven (7) week class.  Each student is required to have a portable external hard drive.

The format of the class is a combination of lecture/lab/workshop. Each week students are expected to bring in their individual results from applying what was learned in the previous week. Then there will be a new tool introduced with an assignment.
