Who We Are

We Are The Same Photography Program that was at The Jane Addams Center, Hull House (JACHH, on Broadway & Belmont that started in 1969. Richard was the Founder and Director of that Program. This is his new place of learning. Many of the same staff are from Jane Addams Center.

Photography Instruction for Everyone!

Richard Stromberg, who established the school in 1969,  taught photography classes at the legendary Jane Addams Center/Hull House at Belmont & Broadway for 33 years. In 2001, when Hull House sold the Center, Richard, with a cadre of students and volunteers, started the Chicago Photography Center on Lincoln Avenue. Subsequently, Richard moved to the present location at 4001 N Ravenswood.

The new location is on the mid-North side of Chicago: 500 feet from the Irving Park El stop on the CTA Brown Line, 10 minutes west from Lake Shore Drive and 15 minutes east from 90/94 on Irving Park Road at the NE corner of Ravenswood Avenue (4001 N Ravenswood Avenue, 1st Floor). This address also houses the WithInSight Gallery, located in WithInSight Hall and open 24 hours a day year around to the public. Richartd's driving goal was always to impress students with what they could do themselves after instruction.

Sadly, Richard passed away in November 2014.  The school is continuing to provide photographic instruction under the new ownership of Nick Sinnott and Rick Katz, both alumni of Richard's instruction.  Classes continue to provide new and advanced students with introductions to photography and develoipment of more advanced techniques.
